In another shocking case of ‘honour’ killing, a Hindu man was murdered by his ex-wife’s Muslim family in Nehru Colony, Faridabad. Sanjay’s body – cut into pieces – was recovered from a jungle close to the neighbourhood where they lived. His family had been looking for him since he disappeared on the morning of 16 August.

Sanjay’s aunt called it the family’s revenge.

On 15 August, the girl’s brother Salem asked Sanjay to meet them. He told him that they wanted to make amends. So Sanjay left his house at around 10 in the morning. But he didn’t come back that day, or the next. The family filed a complaint in the police station, but his body was found 6 days later in the jungle behind Nehru Colony.

24-year-old Sanjay had fallen in love with the girl in his neighbourhood. The two eloped and got married in a court in Rajasthan. Their marriage lasted one year and two months. That was until the girl’s family began pressuring her to get a divorce.

“The father created differences between the two and took the girl back with him. She called him a few days later and asked for a divorce,” Rajesh, Sanjay’s brother-in-law, told The Quint.

Sanjay was the only earning member of the house. The family is survived by his mother, sister and a younger brother who is only 15. Their father passed away five years ago.

The police has arrested Shabana's father, her brother Salem, her uncle and the nephew. A case has been registered under IPC section 302 (attempt to murder), section 364 (destroying evidence) and section 404.

"The father has confessed that because the boy left with her and got married and brought shame to their family, they took revenge by taking his life,"Braham Prakash, Sub-inspector, Crime Branch DLF, Faridabad.

According to the officer from Dabua police station, the body had decayed. He suggested that the murder took place a couple of days ago. They are now waiting for the post-mortem report.
