Deeksha Sharma, a journalist at The Quint, was trolled for speaking out against misogynistic rapper Om Prakash Mishra. Sharma’s stance was simple, the internet should not house content that is misogynistic to the extent of normalising violence against women.

Within minutes of our video against Omprakash going online, we were slammed with a slew of mixed opinions. Some agreed with us and reported Omprakash’s video on YouTube, while others failed to see the problem with the sexism.

Gurmehar Kaur was in the eye of a similar storm six months ago. She raised her voice against violence in Delhi University’s Ramjas College over inviting student activist Umar Khalid for a panel discussion. Her stance was simple – she was against violence in campuses. The keyboard nationalists, however, misconstrued the stance to be that of an anti-national who was supporting a fellow “anti-national”.

Her previous social media statuses were revisited, she was given rape threats, death threats and asked to move to Pakistan.
