Padmaavat has been at the core of enough and more controversies in the past few months. We caught up with Deepika Padukone and she told us how it felt to be at the receiving end of the protests and how she managed to handle it. The film that released on 25 January has raked in over Rs 150 crore at the box office and is still going strong.

Deepika is understandably in the mood to celebrate. The strife is behind her, she says, and she is looking ahead. But she says that the past few months have not been the toughest, but surely been challenging for her. In midst of the protests, a Rs 10 crore award was announced on her and filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, among other things.

When asked about if the state should play a more active role in preventing violent protests against films and filmmakers and giving artistes a more secure environment to work in, Deepika says that she has a very strong view point on what the state should and should not have done. But she decided to give this topic a miss and talk about all the good things instead.

The actor confesses that actors often break down on Bhansali’s sets and she is no exception. But with time, she and the filmmaker have built a relationship based on trust and they respect each other.

She also talks about dad Prakash Padukone being honoured with the Badminton Association of India’s first Lifetime Achievement Award on Monday. Deepika was at the event along with mother Ujjala and sister Anisha. The actor confesses it was an emotional moment for the family and how proud she is as his daughter.
