Chittoor mayor Katari Anuradha was brutally murdered and her husband Katari Mohan, a senior TDP leader, received serious injuries when a gang of three persons attacked the couple at the premises of the city’s municipal corporation office on Tuesday.
According to preliminary information, the mayor was in her chamber along with her husband when some gang members barged into the chamber, though some municipal staff tried to stop them.
The couple were shot and attacked with knives. The trio were said to have escaped immediately after the attack, leaving the couple in a pool of blood. Mr Mohan had unsuccessfully contested on the TDP ticket from Chittoor for the Legislative Assembly. His wife Katari Anuradha became the mayor after the party won a thumping majority of 36 wards out of a total 50.
