The whole CBI vs CBI drama is no short of a Bollywood thriller. It has got all the ingredients, be it drama, emotion or revenge.
The story starts with Qureshi, an exporter. Who was running an illegal import-export business with his aide Sana, when they were raided and arrested by the CBI. Now, Sana had a rapport with officers and leaders but, who would save him from such a situation?Enter Mr X.
Sana bribed Mr X with Rs 2 crore and officer Asthana got to know about it. He immediately filed a complaint in the name of Verma, his boss.
Verma and Asthana's rivalry was spawned when in Central Vigilance Committee's meeting, Verma raised an objection to Asthana's promotion. And one fine day, when Asthana attended a CVC meeting on Verma's behalf, Verma chided them asking who gave the permission.
Agitated by the spate of events, Asthana, in a letter to the CVC, mentioned how Verma stopped him from arresting Sana. On the other hand, Verma handed over all important cases of Asthana like the Delhi govt cases, IRCTC scam and the P Chidambaram probe to his right hand man, Sharma.
Later, Sana, in front of the magistrate, admitted to having bribed Asthana with Rs 3 crore. And then, the CBI registered a case against Asthana.
After watching the whole Verma-Asthana episode, the government forcibly sent both the officers on vacation and appointed Nageshwar as the interim chief.
Verma appealed to the Supreme Court . The court asked the CVC to investigate the matter and submit its report in 2 weeks.
The CVC submitted its report and Verma was reinstated as the CBI chief. But the Supreme Court asked a high power committee consisting of the PM, Leader of the Opposition, and a Supreme Court judge, to decide upon the fate of Verma.
The PM and the judge voted in the favour of removing Verma from his post while Leader of the Opposition, Mr Kharge, remained the lone opposer.
And Verma, from CBI chief, was made the Director General of fire services. Hurt by this decision, Verma resigned from his post and on the other hand, Mr X was out on vacation.
Now whether this story is true or fiction, you decide. However, as far as the story of CBI vs CBI goes, the tale is yet to end.
