As the clash between the Delhi Government and Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung intensifies, a senior bureaucrat has been caught in the cross fire. Principal Secretary (Services) Anindo Majumdar was locked out of his Delhi Secretariat office on Monday morning.
The Principal Secretary’s office on the seventh floor of the Delhi Secretariat was sealed to prevent him from entering, reported NDTV.
Later in the day, Majumdar was replaced by Rajendra Kumar as the Principal Secretary (Services). Kumar earlier served as the Secretary in the Urban Development Department and handled various departments including Power and Transport.
However, Jung rejected Kumar’s appointment. He shot off a letter to Kejriwal, declaring Kumar’s appointment in place of Majumdar “void”, noting that it did not have his approval.
Later in the day, acting Delhi Chief Secretary Shakuntala Gamlin met Union Home Secretary LC Goyal, to reportedly discuss “routine” administrative matters.
In fact, Majumdar was transferred by the Delhi Government on Saturday. He had cleared the posting for Shakuntala Gamlin as acting Chief Secretary on the direction of Lt Governor Najeeb Jung, a move that has left the AAP Government fuming.
Meanwhile, the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Jitendra Singh has urged the ‘concerned people’ to treat civil service officers respectfully.
Here’s what he had to say.
The Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal escalated an attack on the Lieutenant Governor for the appointment of Shakuntala Gamlin without consulting him.
