Japanese Food Master Class with Lakhan Jethani at Mizu Restaurant
When it comes to Japanese food, most people only know about one thing - Sushi. We met Lakhan Jethani, who is the head chef at Mizu restaurant, a fancy Japanese restaurant in Worli. He introduced us to a whole different world of Japanese food that wasn’t just sushi.
Being a complete newbie to Japanese cuisine, Lakhan started off by telling me that he was going to cook a Donburi - a dish I had never even heard of until then.
While we cooked Donbur, which is essentially just a rice bowl, I continued having a light-hearted conversation with him. He explained the significance of each ingredient and also spoke about the special Japanese ingredients that would be used in the dish. After around 15 minutes, the lobster spicy miso donburi was ready and I couldn’t wait to dig in.
To my surprise, the dish cost around Rs. 1800. I loved the donburi as soon as I took my first bite and thanked him for the meal.
As one of the few restaurants serving authentic Japanese cuisine in the city, Lakhan told me about Aamir Khan who had recently visited his restaurant. When asked about the incident, this is what he had to say:
But the delicious burst of Japanese flavours in my mouth wasn’t all. The kind folks at Mizu also topped it up with a free dessert. An indulgent learning experience, I am glad I got to learn more about Japanese cuisine.
