Six people, including an MLA were killed when a truck, laden with granite  collided with the Nanded Express, bound for Bengaluru.

The truck driver and five travellers in the H1 coach of the train were killed. Among those killed was AA Venkatesh Naik, a Karnataka Congress legislator from the Devadurg constituency in Raichur district.

The site of the accident was a level crossing at Madakasira in Penukonda Mandal of Anantpur district, disrupting movement of trains on the Bengaluru-Guntakal route.

Local police and Railway officials have launched rescue work.
