Anupam Kher has slammed Vivek Oberoi for sharing a meme about Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, calling it shameful and in poor taste. Speaking to reporters at the trailer launch of his upcoming film One Day, the actor said,

“It’s very shameful. It’s as simple as that. He shouldn’t have done that. It’s absolutely not cool.”

Kher’s co-star Esha Gupta also criticised Vivek Oberoi saying that the tweet is a reflection of who he is. "It just shows your mentality, specially if you're getting a minor involved. It's not in good taste at all. It just shows how he is. It doesn't reflect on what others are. It was shameful," she said.

Vivek Oberoi on Monday, 20 May, shared a meme on Twitter that compared stages of election polls to ex-girlfriend Aishwarya Rai and her relationships. The image labeled photos of Aishwarya with Salman Khan, Vivek and husband Abhishek Bachchan as ‘opinion poll’, ‘exit poll’ and ‘result’ respectively.

The tweet prompted much backlash from Twitter users, including actor Sonam Kapoor, though Vivek was initially unapologetic and said that he hadn’t done anything wrong. “Somebody tweeted a meme and I laughed,” he told ANI.

He later took down the tweet saying, “Even if one woman is offended by my reply to the meme, it calls for remedial action. Apologies, tweet deleted.” In an attempt to defend his actions, he wrote, “Sometimes what appears to be funny and harmless at first glance to one, may not be so to others. I have spent the last 10 years empowering more than 2000 underprivileged girls, I cant even think of being disrespectful to any woman ever.”
