In his latest book, Sita: Warrior of Mithila, author Amish turns the conventional portrayal of Sita – that of a meek woman – on its head, choosing to paint her as a fierce warrior instead.
Amish spoke to The Quint about his new book and his decision to depict Sita in a new light. The acclaimed author revealed that for the book, he turned to Valmiki’s Adbhuta Ramayana. This lesser-known version of the epic spends more time exploring Sita’s character, giving Amish the inspiration he needed.
During the conversation, Amish touched upon a number of topics, including his interpretation of feminism, and the driving force that keeps him going.
