Aamir Khan is known for performing challenging roles, from playing a middle-aged overweight wrestler in Dangal to an eccentric music composer in Secret Superstar. He gets into the skin of his character like no other. Thugs of Hindostan will see him playing Firangi, a person who goes around duping people. Aamir in a recent group interview with journalists opens up about the film and says that it is not based on any book or historical event. It’s entirely fiction.

Thug is a person who is out to loot you, though our film is not a historical based on the thug-y period - which a lot of people had written, that it is based on some book, it is not. It’s entirely fiction. It’s an action-adventure film.

He also admits that playing Firangi was the toughest thing he has ever done as an actor.

It was a tough role because it was a very thin line I had to walk on. Firangi is a character who is very, very unreliable. When he is talking to you, he is winning your trust and you end up trusting him and of course, at some point, he will stab you in the back. So when he is winning your trust, I have to be very sincere, I’ll have to make you believe.

He continues, “At the same time, the character is playing to the galleries. If I tilt a little too much to play to the galleries, then the characters in the scene will not trust me. So the balance is very fine. If I am too real then I won't be enjoyable. So it's a very fine line. You have to be real for the characters, and at the same time, the audience has to enjoy what you're doing.”

Thugs of Hindostan is all set to hit theatres on 8 November.
