The man behind the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, who’s a top commander of the banned terror outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba, has been released from prison.
The Lahore High Court on Thursday suspended the detention order, ordering the Pakistani government to release Lakhvi immediately.
The Indian government told PTI that it is extremely disappointed with the Pakistan government and the Lahore High Court for deciding to release the 26/11 plotter.
According to his lawyer, Rizwan Abbasi, the court called Lakhvi’s detention illegal and ordered his release from Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, where he was being held.
India has given them enough evidence: Nikam
Ujjwal Nikam, the Special Public Prosecutor in the 2008 Mumbai terror attack case slammed the decision to free him.
The dossiers that we had sent to the Pakistani government had more than enough evidence of criminal conspiracy against Lakhvi and keep him in jail. The onus is on the Pakistani government for this casual approach to combat terrorism.

2008 Mumbai attacks
Lakhvi has been in jail since 2009. The anti-terror court said that it did not have evidence to prove his involvement in India’s worst-ever terror attack in which 166 people died.
Lakhvi is one of seven people on trial in Pakistan for the siege of Mumbai, but the trial has produced no results so far. India has repeatedly warned Pakistan that the glacial pace of the trial is unacceptable.
Indian investigators have submitted voice samples and other evidence that reveal Lakhvi talking on satellite phones to the 10 terrorists who sailed into Mumbai and attacked its most famous landmarks.
