Pakistan's army chief General Raheel Sharif spoke out against India on Thursday, warning that “any act of aggression” from New Delhi will not go unpunished as tensions increase between the two countries over Kashmir.

General Raheel Sharif was speaking at a passing out parade to honour Pakistani air force cadets in Risalpur.

He accused India of a "litany of falsehoods and distortion of facts" with regard to Jammu and Kashmir and along the Line of Control.

Sharif said any aggression would meet with "the most befitting response".

His remarks come amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following last month's terror attack on Uri military base that killed 20 soldiers.

India later retaliated, saying its Special Forces conducted a "surgical strike" and destroyed "terrorist launching pads" used by Pakistan-backed militants inside Pakistani-controlled part of Kashmir.

Islamabad rejected the Indian account, saying routine cross-border firing from India had killed their two jawans.
