Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal arrived in Ludhiana on Thursday amidst massive protests by its ally in the state, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), and opposition Congress’ women’s wing. As he stepped out, he was faced with yet another group of protestors, who claimed to be from a Hindu outfit.

Youth Akali Dal leader Gurpreet Singh Gosha led by other party activists tried to give bangles to Kejriwal, claiming his government had failed on all fronts. Gosha asserted that those “exploiting women”, “deep into corruption”, “with no Punjabi background” have no place in Punjab.

The protestors were upset about Kejriwal’s silence on AAP MLA Sandeep Kumar and his involvement in a sex “scandal”.

But the Delhi CM’s run-in with protestors in Ludhiana was not all. Even earlier in the day, Kejriwal faced an angry group of women protesters at New Delhi Railway Station, while he was boarding the train to Punjab. The group shouted slogans at AAP, accusing it of poor governance.

Activists led by Delhi BJP women’s wing president Kamaljeet Sehrawat and party spokesman Praveen Kapoor raised slogans and waved bangles at Kejriwal as well. Some protesters jostled with the policemen and Kejriwal was caught in the melee.

Blaming Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Delhi Police for the alleged manhandling of the Chief Minister at the hands of women protesters of the BJP, AAP said the law enforcement agency was a “mute spectator” during the “pre-planned” episode. BJP, however, denied any manhandling and said party activists resorted to political protest.
