Just one week ago, the Supreme Court, in response to a PIL, imposed restrictions on the height of human pyramids and the age of the Govindas who form them as a part of the Dahi Handi celebration on Janmashtami. The order dictates that the pyramids be no higher than 20 feet and that the players not be under 18 years of age.

The Quint brings you a ground report straight from the heart of the city that celebrates Janmashtami like no other. Indeed, Dahi Handi has become a competitive sport with more than 4000 events and 400 teams vying for the metaphorical handi (pot) filled with butter which Lord Krishna stole, tied up in the air, sometimes as high as 40 feet. What do the people think of the verdict? Is it really “unsafe”?
