A Nation Wounded: The 17 Bravehearts Whom India Lost in Uri Attack

The deadly terror attack on the Indian Army base in Uri killed 17 jawans on Sunday. Heavily armed militants, suspected to be from the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad, targeted the army’s 12th Brigade headquarters, leaving at least 30 army personnel injured.

Below are the names of the 17 bravehearts who died protecting their country:

  • Sepoy Rakesh Singh, Baddja village, Kaimur, Bihar

  • Sepoy Javra Munda, Meral village, Khunti, Jharkhand

  • Sepoy Naiman Kujur, Gumla, Gumla district, Jharkhand

  • Sepoy Uike Janrao, Nandgaon village, Amravati, Maharashtra

  • Havildar NS Rawat, Rajawa village, Rajasamand, Rajasthan

  • Sepoy Ganesh Shankar, Ghoorapalli village, Sant Kabir Nagar, Uttar Pradesh

  • Naik SK Vidarthi, Boknari village, Gaya, Bihar

  • Sepoy Biswajit Ghorai, Ganga Sagar, South 24 Parganas, West Bengal

  • Lance Naik G Shankar, Jashi village, Satara, Maharashtra

  • Sepoy G Dalai, Jamuna Balia, Howrah district, West Bengal

  • Lance Naik RK Yadav, Balia, Balia district, Uttar Pradesh

  • Sepoy Harinder Yadav, Ghazipur, Ghazipur district, Uttar Pradesh

  • Sepoy TS Somnath, Khadangali village, Nashik, Maharashtra

  • Havildar Ashok Kumar Singh, Raktu Tola village, Bhojpur, Bihar

  • Sepoy Rajesh Kumar Singh, Jaunpur, Jaunpur disirict, Uttar Pradesh.

Besides these 17 fatalities, Sepoy HN Bala Diag and Lance Naik Ram Krishna were critically injured after the three-hour gun battle with the Jaish fidayeen.

PM Narendra Modi said that those responsible for the attack “will not go” unpunished even as the world condemned the horrific attack.

Uri Martyrs’ Last Journey Home

The Northern Command of the Indian Army tweeted details about transporting the mortal remains of the Uri martyrs to their hometowns.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti led senior army and police officials in paying tribute to the 17 martyrs at the wreath laying ceremony on Monday.
