Colourful couches, open offices, graffiti walls and no cubicles! GE’s Bengaluru digital hub reminded me of the coolest cafés in Khan market in New Delhi. The unconventional look and feel perfectly complements the manufacturing giant’s transformation into the world’s largest digital industrial company. As the 125 year old company goes digital, the biggest challenge it faces is transforming mindsets and adapting to a cultural shift. But the young technologists seem to be delighted to be a part of this new culture as GE decides to add 1000 IT and software professionals from all over the country. “We don’t aim at picking up talent only from the IITs. We are looking at hiring technologists who understand business. So they could be from start ups or tier one and tier two type colleges”, said Anthony Thomas, Group CIO for GE.

The Bengaluru hub is GE’s largest Digital Hub globally. Currently employing 1,500 highly skilled IT and software professionals, GE’s Digital Hub in India will create an additional 1,000 technology and software jobs. This new location is expected to deliver world-class solutions for the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) for GE’s customers, making it easier for industrial companies to execute a strategic digital transformation to drive internal productivity.

“We’re excited to bring the best and brightest into GE’s new location in India to help us in our journey,” said Jim Fowler, VP & Chief Information Officer (CIO) for GE. “Talent is our utmost priority in advancing outcomes and we are keen to harness additional talent from India, specialized in data sciences, analytics and product development space.”

Spread over 200,000 sq. ft. and equipped with state of the art facilities, the digital hub is located in the heart of the busiest Tech Park at Whitefield, Bengaluru, and is designed to encourage collaboration and development across teams as well as high-tech features throughout the space from conference rooms to the on-site cafeteria.

“If you want to see rapid growth, make a difference to what’s happening around in the world and be part of the world’s largest industrial infrastructure company, I think you should be in GE”, said Banmali Agrawala, President & CEO for GE South Asia.
