It turns out Google's India-born CEO Sundar Pichai took home nearly $200 million (or roughly Rs 2,182 crore!) as compensation in 2016. That’s also almost double the amount he earned in 2015, as recent news reports stated.

The massive increase in Pichai’s pay was thanks to a stock award of $198.7 million he received last year. The Google boss’ salary in 2016 (which excludes the mammoth stock award) stood at $650,000, putting his daily earnings at just over Rs 1 lakh a day.

Pichai’s jaw-dropping remuneration has turned the spotlight on the earnings of technology sector CEOs. So how much do other tech top bosses take home? Here’s a quick look.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, also an India-born techie, received a package of $18 million last year, translating to almost Rs 115 crore. Apple top boss Tim Cook took home $8 million last year, or roughly Rs 51 crore.

Now here’s the shocker. Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has an annual salary of just $1. This, though, hasn’t stopped him from becoming the fifth richest person in the world.

That’s because Zuckerberg owns 426.3 million Facebook shares, currently valued at $25.68 billion. His individual net worth therefore works out to almost $62.8 billion.

Elon Musk, CEO of auto giant Tesla and space tech firm SpaceX, gets an annual salary of around $40,000 – which is pretty low going by tech industry standards.

And to end the list there's Twitter chief executive Jack Dorsey who officially doesn’t draw any salary at all. Instead, he receives personal and residential security costs that total to around $68,506.
