The Honor 6x is finally getting an upgrade, and I for one am really excited about what Honor has to offer.
Before the phone is launched on 5 December, I got my hands on the new Honor 7x, and to my surprise, the sight was quite reminiscent of what I saw with the Honor 9i; Big full-view screen, metal body, and loads of impressive specifications.
While I wonder why Honor is going through the pain of launching another phone, here’s a quick look at the new Honor 7x.

Design & Display
As I said earlier, there are a lot of similarities between the Honor 9i and the 7x, and that reflects in the design. While the aesthetics and the design philosophy might be similar, the 7x does bring some freshness to the table.
The edges feel a bit more sharper this time around, and the smooth metal finish at the back is easier to grip. Not like the bars of soap that phones are transforming into these days.
Gorilla glass protection for the 5.9-inch full view display looks solid. The screen is full HD and performs well in brightly lit conditions too. No problems here.

Regardless of how simple the phone looks, some elements are rather attractive.
Performance and Storage
The phone’s running on some impressive hardware. It runs on a Kirin 659 chipset coupled with 4GB of RAM. It’s snappy and quite responsive.
Storage is in abundance here. Not only does the phone come with multiple storage options starting from 64GB, but also adds expandable memory up to 256GB.
For people venturing into Honor territory, it’ll take some time to get used to the EMUI 5.1. The bottom sports a single speaker grille, a USB 2.0 port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Clean setup.
The fingerprint sensor is located at the back (the most inconvenient position for me).
Camera & Battery
The Honor 7x sports a 16+2-megapixel rear camera with LED flash. Clicks good pictures both in low and well lit conditions. The ‘bokeh’ mode could use a bit more refinement, considering the subject sometimes tends to be a bit blurry.
The front come with an 8-megapixel snapper which is also good. Though I would have liked the dual front camera setup similar to the one on the 9i, as that really adds more value to the device.
The Honor 7x packs a 3340mAh battery which is not removable. With average use, it got me through the day, but I really won’t comment on the battery yet as I’ll reserve that for the full review.

Initial Verdict
The 7x is not about bringing newness to the table, rather it’s just refining what’s already there in the market. It’s got a beautiful full-view display and a camera setup that’s impressed me at least.
Expecting a price tag of somewhere between Rs 15,000 to Rs 17,000 and that’s where things get really interesting for the buyers.
