Making it through the day on your smartphone is probably the biggest challenge. Right? Many Samsung flagship users (minus those who use Note 9) barely make it to the night while iPhone owners... umm, let’s not go there.

Phones like the Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro and even the Asus Zenfone Max Pro have come to the rescue in certain ways but lack that premium touch some customers crave for.

After a somewhat disappointing run in India, US smartphone maker Motorola (under the umbrella of Lenovo) is back with a phone with a big battery life that promises potential, within budget.

The Motorola One Power, as the name suggests, is all about the big battery experience. But, if you’re still confused about which of the above three you should buy, here’s a quick spec-to-spec comparison between the Motorola One Power, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro and the Asus Zenfone Max Pro.

Design & Display

The Note 5 Pro and the Zenfone Max Pro come with a very basic design and are comparatively much lighter than the One Power which weighs a whopping 198 grams! That’s heavy. Won’t recommend it for people who tend to use their phones for long sessions, especially for gaming.

The One Power gains a big lead in the display department with a bezel-less 6.2-inch FHD+ display that comes with a notch on the top. It pushes out more pixels than its competitors and comes in very handy while watching videos.

Not a big fan of the notch. But if it sells, why not make more?

Minus the bulk, the Motorola One Power is definitely a winner in this department.

Performance & Hardware

In terms of performance, all three phones in this shootout are running the same Snapdragon 636 octa-core processor. Where the One Power gets sidelined is the RAM department as it comes in only a 4GB/64GB variant while the Redmi Pro and the Zenfone Max both comes with 6GB of RAM.

All three also come with an Adreno 509 GPU for graphics.

Where I feel that investing in a Moto phone will reap rewards is the pure Android experience and regular updates. I got an opportunity to speak with Motorola and they are looking to make amends and provide customers regular software updates especially with the One Power. One can expect this Motorola phone to be running on the latest Android P in the coming months but as before I would prefer you also take what Moto says with a pinch of salt.

Since we have had considerable time using the Redmi Note 5 and the Zenfone Max, all we can say is that both these phones come with their own set of troubles but still don’t disappoint. The One Power too impressed but is clearly not a workhorse considering its less than generous hardware portfolio.

Camera & Battery

Motorola has made some improvements in the camera department with the One Power. It comes with a dual 16+5-megapixel rear camera setup while on the front is sports a 12-megapixel sensor. What’s a bitter disappointment is that the One Power doesn’t offer any sort of video stabilisation, which is a big deal breaker for people who prefer using a phone to make video content.

Since we have already done a comparison between the Note 5 Pro and the Max Pro, we won’t dive into that again. Still, for all those who are curious about the camera performance of the two, read the full story here.

Here’s what you’re really paying for. The Moto One Power and the Zenfone Max Pro come with 5,000mAh batteries, which can easily give you two days of back up. What One Power adds to its advantage is a 15-watt fast charging feature while the Max Pro doesn’t offer any such benefits.

Yes, the Redmi Note 5 Pro does comes with Quick Charge technology but since it falls 1,000mAh behind its competitors, the One Power and the Zenfone Max Pro hold the upper hand.

Which One to Buy?

The Redmi Note 5 Pro 6GB/64GB variant is available in the market for Rs 16,999, while the Zenfone Max Pro can be bought for Rs 14,999 for similar storage and RAM. The recently launched Motorola One Power has been priced at Rs 15,999, which I feel is good pricing for what’s on offer.

Xiaomi fans can’t complain about what they are getting with the Note 5 Pro, which is why it’s one of the highest selling phones in India while the Asus Zenfone Max too has impressed with its value-for-money portfolio.

The only place I feel the Moto phone lags behind is the extra bulk and the lesser RAM it comes with. Else, people who want the true Android experience bundled with a premier brand like Moto should go for the One Power.
