Did you send a broadcast message on WhatsApp, wishing everyone on your list a happy new year and not have it delivered? Or did you immediately have to log into other social media platforms to check if WhatsApp was down. Well, you’re not the only one.

On the very first day of 2018, instant messaging application WhatsApp crashed, sending people into a frenzy. The platform reportedly has 70 million active users in India alone.

WhatsApp services has been down for the last 30 minutes, tweeted ANI at 12:30 am on 1 January. While it tweeted that the services have been restored thirty minutes later, people still took to Twitter to share their grievances.

For a short while, #WhatsAppDown was even trending on Twitter India.
