We’re getting closer to the launch of the supposed Apple iPhone 7 (surely it can’t be 8) and the internet sphere is filled with rumors and leaks about the product.

This is basically the norm year-on-year but 2016 could be unlike any other for the Cupertino-based brand. Recent market analysis has indicated that Apple is losing its sheen when pitted against the Samsung Galaxy flagship phones.

Apple has a tough work on its hands to attract buyers this year, especially when their Android peers are offering better value with latest features. So, what could Apple possibly do to retain its magic and make the iPhone 7 a success? Here’s all they (seem) to have in place for the iPhone 6S successor in 2016.

If you have been following the iPhone 7 leak-o-sphere, there is hardly anything that’s going to excite the consumers. In all probability, the iPhone 7 will continue to borrow its design elements from its predecessor and that’s a bummer. Take a look at the video which seems to give us everything about the iPhone 7.

Notable design changes highlight that the iPhone 7 could have protruding camera at the back, making the phone slimmer than it actually is right now. Also, if we go by patent reports, then the iPhone 7 could be the first to come without a Home button. Instead, you get a touch-sensitive surface in the mould of a button.

And could we finally get a dust and water-resistant iPhone 7 this year? We sure hope so.

As we’ve talked about before, Apple’s chances of bumping up their display size and resolution are slim. While the market norm has flickered between 5 to 5.5-inch these days, it is unlikely that Apple would take that route in 2016.

Also, most people are extremely happy with the screen resolution on offer right now, hence sticking to basics might be Apple’s best choice. Also, you wouldn’t want to anger the consumers by upping the quality which directly affects the phone’s battery life.

New age audio

Apple is set to ditch the traditional 3.5-mm audio jack in order to free up space for additional speakers. This means that the lightning connector will not only be used to charge your phone and transfer data, but also play music.

We’re not sure how Apple plans to implement this on the iPhone 7. But if we take the example of LeEco, a lot of users could end up asking Apple the reason for such a big change.

We’ll see if Apple can offer the non-3.5-mm audio option that is to everyone’s liking.

Apple is not expected to increase the camera megapixels. The optics got upgraded only last year on the iPhone 6S, from 8-megapixel to 12-megapixel. But we’d expect Apple to offer Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) on all models from the word go.

More features

Apple should ideally look to improve the power-management support with the iPhone 7. It is unlikely that Apple will go beyond the 2000mAh mark, so that the iPhone 7 is slim and easy to carry.
