Twitter Tightens Rules Against Religious Hate Speech on Platform

Twitter has expanded its rules against hateful conduct to include language on its platform that dehumanizes others on the basis of religion.

The micro-blogging platform announced the updates, saying that the focus is on addressing the risk of offline harm.

The update hence, addresses hateful content towards religious groups, which is a significant change in how the platform moderates hate speech.

The company, in its statement said that after months of feedback and research, the experts in its team expanded its rules against hate speech based on religion.

In a blog, the company said these are the kind of tweets it will start moderating:

The company also urged users to delete said that any such tweets made before Tuesday, will have to be deleted. However, no account suspension will occur since the rule didn’t exist back then.

The decision from Twitter comes after 8,000 responses for its feedback on a wide range of of perspectives from different communities and cultures who use twitter.
