Twitter Does It Again! #FeministBollySongs Tackles Sexist Lyrics

Once again, Twitter is the playground for a delightful, and crucial, talk about pop culture sexism in India.

Tall Claim Alert: 98% of our Hindi film songs involve a one-sided address by a man to a woman he hopes to woo. And an alarming percentage of these second-hand serenades are problematic for their casual sexism, which ranges from hilarious to offensive to seriously threatening.

Twitter, arguably the best site for a playful yet important debate on social issues, has turned its incisive gaze on this tradition. #FeministBollySongs aims to uncover the sexism inherent in our cinematic romances, and have a blast while doing it.
