This year has been a rollercoaster ride for PlayStation gamers. With titles like Spiderman and God of War disappearing off the shelves in the blink of an eye, 2018 had a lot of action-packed games to offer.

There were about 760 PS4 titles released this year so it’s obvious that one would be spoilt for choice. To make it easier we did the hard work of picking out the top PS4 games released in 2018 that you must play.

Before we get on with this story, let me be clear in saying that this is just a compilation of the games that I would recommend to play. It is not a “Top 10” list. Period.

1. Red Dead Redemption 2

Much like Rockstar Game’s magnum opus, Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead Redemption 2 too is a big project which is set in the ‘wild west’ with a lot of cowboy, gun slinging & horse riding action.

The game took eight year in developing and encapsulates open world gameplay filled with a great story and subtle yet breathtaking inserts or various encounters and sub-missions. The overall campaign is almost 60-hours, much bigger than the game’s 2010 edition.

You’ll enjoy the assortment of various environments the game has to offer. It makes the gameplay more engaging.

There are certain bits challenging about the game. Like the fact that you have to loot the bodies manually and you’ll have to brew your coffee too!

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a graphical treat and lot of thought has been put into the minutest of detail. If you like GTA V, then this game is a must play.

2. Marvel’s Spider-Man

Your friendly neighbourhood spider man is back! And, in an avatar that’s convinced most PS4 gamers to play this action packed title. Insomniac Games is offering this open-world adventure game keeping it as close to the comic’s classic story mixed with a lot of freshness and futuristic gizmos.

This has been the fastest selling game in the market overtaking even God of War! The game boast of some fantastic visuals and tactical gameplay which is on similar ground to what we saw in Batman: Arkham Knight.

3. God of War 2018

If you love RPG (role playing games), then God of War 2018 should definitely be on your list of games to play on PS4. The herculean and brawny protagonist, Kratos, is back with an aim to take on the gods from Norse mythology after having conquered Mount Olympus in the earlier editions.

The game is an engaging reinvention of the ever-favourite and longstanding series that gets to you fast combat, a good campaign and more blood and gore. An addition that many will become fond of is the bond between Kratos and his son who is introduced in this chapter.

Despite wanting to be a good father figure Kratos nails it as a god killer in the 2018 edition of the game.

4. Shadow of the Tomb Raider

An action-packed, treasure-hunting game is always hot property on the PlayStaion Store. If you’re done with the Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series and still crave for more grave hunting — then I can bet that the Shadow of the Tomb Raider can match the adrenaline.

The game offers more stealthy ways of combat and makes Lara the predator she was meant to be. The vast dynamics and intricate yet elaborate tombs in the game will always keep you on the edge of your seats while playing this RPG.

For me, the game offers a just end to the trilogy.

5. Dragon Ball FighterZ

It’s a sudden surge of some ‘Kamehameha’ energy that’s swept a lot of PS4 players off their feet this year. I am talking about the new Dragon Ball FighterZ. There are plenty of fighting games online like WWE 2K19 and even Soulcalibur VI but neither comes close to delivering the killer blow like the Dragon Ball FighterZ.

Bandai Namco has worked hard on the cinematics and gameplay attack combos that give the game a truly animated feel, which is visually very close to the original anime series.

Explosive graphics and a fighter portfolio of 24 characters will keep the veterans and even the rookies wanting more.

6. Far Cry 5

Ubisoft’s love for open-world games perpetuates in most of its titles just like this year’s March release Far Cry 5. Many are calling it to be the “best first-person shooter game of 2018”. It does justice to the well-established and long running series that has garnered a lot of fans.

The game takes place in the sub-urban parts of the US, where a town, Hope County, is being tormented by fundamentalist cult who are looking to ‘cleanse’ the area of people they consider “sinners”.

The game offers both stealth and open combat to keep the campaign alive, not to mention you get to hire recruits in case you need the extra help.

7. Fifa 19

Undoubtedly, the best football simulator game, Fifa 19 brings with it a lot of freshness with added animation and celebrations and even the gameplay is very different. Defending becomes more difficult in this version.

Fifa 19 brings with it new modes and the best of all, a Champions League Mode! The game also introduces new game modes: House Rules Mode, Survival and an all-new Journey Mode. If you know how to work your way around the joystick, players like Messi and Ronaldo become unstoppable.

Ever since the game has switched to the Frostbite engine, the graphics have improved drastically and the same reflects in the 2019 version of the game. Love football? This is the game to play.

8. Shadow of Colossus

Ever since the game was released in 2005, it has seen some incremental updates in terms of character development. Shadow of Colossus will mean the most to folks who have already played the game before.

The sheer enormity of the game’s world is breath taking and the gameplay is engaging enough to keep you glued to the screen.

This title is highly recommended for the fans of Sentimental games, which emphasises on character bonding and tactical gameplay.

9. PUBG

A game that’s taken the mobile gaming industry by storm, PlayerUnknown’s Battleground is available on PS4 and is a must play if you liked the mobile version. The gameplay is similar to its PC version where you have to survive a battle royal against 99 other players.

The graphics on PS4 is much different from the mobile version and there is a lot of manual interaction with the different elements in the map. Like you don’t have automatic ammo and accessory sorting. You have to pick up guns and ammo manually and slot scopes and other additional equipment yourself.

Not the same as the mobile version but it is still fun.

10. Monster Hunter: World

And last, but not the least, we have Monster Hunter: World. The game allows you to embark on a monster killing journey where you have to collect items to improve your armour and better your monster killing skills.

There are about 30 gargantuan monsters you must kill in order to win the game, but the journey isn’t easy one bit.

There are parts where you’d feel the game gets a bit monotonous, but if you are interested in open game worlds with a lot of boss fights that are visually a treat to the eyes, then you’d definitely enjoy Monster Hunter.
