Sony PlayStation fans have a big reason to celebrate as the company has confirmed that it will be launching the next edition of its flagship gaming console next year.

In a tweet on PlayStation’s official handle, Sony announced that PlayStation 5 will be launching next year in December.

There had been rumours about the the next-gen Sony gaming console launching in 2020 but the company has put all speculations to rest by making it official.

The company has also announced that it will be making some changes in the hardware department with an updated controller.

Sony has also talked about bringing changes to the way players use the buttons. It is looking to do away with old technology and introduce something called “adaptive triggers,” which will go in the primary R2/L2 triggers on the PS5 controller.

According to the company, developers will have the option to “program the resistance of the triggers,” which means that players will be able to feel the extra tension on the button as your character in the game is exerting pressure, for example, trying to pry open a door.

In terms of specificztions, Sony has revealed that the new PS5 will come with an eight-core CPU, 3D audio and support for 8K gaming. It will also offer PS4 back compatibility and the console will draw lesser power than the existing generation of PlayStation consoles.

There are also rumours that the new PS5 controller will support USB Type-C and come with a bigger battery and a better speaker this time.

The console is also expected to come with a revamped interface with new social sharing features and a more intuitive game dashboard. Sony says that you’ll be able to see specific in-game features of the directly from the home screen without even having to launch the game.

There is still a lot to be announced from the company’s side on what the final product will look like.
