Some of Snapchat's source code was, earlier this year, exposed on Github - a platform for hackers and researchers to archive codes and data dumps.

Snap, the company behind the social media platform confirmed to Motherboard, a tech website, about the leak. However, Snap asked GitHub to remove the data, activating the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

The leak happened during Snapchat’s May iOS update. But Snap later confirmed that no user data or personal information was compromised.

The code mostly pertained to Snapchat's camera features and hands-free recording and was posted on GitHub for a while before, the platform complied with the copyright act and took the source code down.

According to reports, the leaked source code was not a big leak. A Twitter user said that the file size of the leaked code was only 2 MB.

As the complete Snapchat application is 76 MB on Android (iOS apps are much heavier in size), the 2 MB figure is miniscule. It isn’t enough for someone to completely emulate Snapchat.
