Remember the last time you went to a dinner party with a white shirt and spilled butter chicken on it? How embarrassing was it to have that stain in every selfie you took that evening?
Well if you had the Haier Codo, things would have been a little different. This is the world’s smallest washing machine. The label is a bit of a stretch since, at best, it’s a handy washer on-the-go for your clothes.
Priced at Rs 3,990, it’s not a bad gadget to have if you’re clumsy with food or in love with white shirts.

What’s Good?
It gets rid of almost any kind of stain – that’s what’s good.
The Haier Codo weighs 200 grams and uses 3 AAA batteries to operate. Its cylindrical shape has its own advantages as well as disadvantages.
Haier has used squeeze wash technology on the Codo and all you need is a little amount of water mixed with liquid detergent, which is stored by the gizmo in a small cylindrical compartment.
It uses very little water too and, to state the obvious, saving water is a good thing.
The nozzle at the top, when pressed against a stain on your clothes, washes and rinses at the same time.
All you need to do is a hit a single button – which is exactly the number of buttons the Codo has.
The Codo works like a sniper, targeting only the stained part of a cloth. Haier says that the Codo’s piston action works on a stain at 700 beats per minute. It basically brushes the stain out.
The three batteries also last you about 50 washes, which is pretty impressive.
What’s Bad?
Yes, the Haier Codo is smaller than a PET bottle of your favourite cola, but it’s not that compact. Measuring 46x46x176 mm, it’s quite big and you can’t carry it in your pocket.
It’s basically a sophisticated way of putting water on a stain and rubbing it with your hand or a tissue paper. The result is the same.
The only advantage is that the wet patch on your clothes won’t spread.
But even then, once you use the Codo on your shirt, you have to leave it to nature to evaporate the wet patch.
I think there’s enough space under that cylinder to fit in a quick dry fan, but maybe I’m asking for too much.
Durability is another issue: If you leave the batteries inside it for a long time, it might leak and not work again. Maybe that’s why Haier gives only a 6-month warranty for the Codo.
And let’s keep in mind, it’s not the final solution – you’ll still need a full-sized washing machine to keep your clothes fresh.
Why Buy it?
Ah! What the hell? It’s a pretty cool gizmo to have.
It’s not even that expensive. At Rs 3,990, there are many more useless gadgets that you can buy. This, at least, has some amount of practicality attached to it. It still needs a couple of improvements, but as a first iteration, it’s good enough for now.
You can only buy this on Snapdeal and even if you don’t want it, it’s a good gifting option for one of your clumsy friends or relatives this festive season.
