Lenovo bought Motorola to make its position stronger in the mobile space. The PC-maker has slowly but gradually stepped up its game by delivering quality products. The Vibe P1M is part of Lenovo’s mission to serve Indian consumers with affordable smartphones and to add a few special elements to them. Ask any phone user what they want the most and the answer will not be related to high number cores. Instead, they want a long battery life.

What’s Good?
The Lenovo Vibe P1M has the attributes that make it a modern day budget smartphone. Opting for a 5-inch display size has become a no-brainer these days and for this price, HD resolution feels adequate enough for users. The body construction feels justified as well, with metallic finishing on the side and edges, and a matte finish body at the back. When you talk about the phone’s performance, the P1M manages to fare well in most aspects. However, it’s not really meant for power usage.
Vibe P1M runs on Vibe UI over Android 5.0 Lollipop and unlike our previous tryst with it, the software has been vastly improved to function as a near-stable interface. Mind you, there are some issues with it but nothing that is going to be of concern.
The last and most important factor that forces us to vote in favour of the Vibe P1M is the battery life. The 4,000mAh battery unit manages to deliver on its promise of being a roadrunner. The phone consistently lasts for more than a day and a half and if you include the use of the power-saving mode, it lasts even longer.
What’s Bad?
The downside of having a 4,000mAh battery-powered smartphone is its weight and size. If you compare the Vibe P1M to some of the phones launched recently, the parity is obvious and to gain on battery life, you end up losing the slimness quotient.
Also, the Vibe P1M will never be seen as the phone with a quality camera. Even though you get an 8-megapixel snapper, the results are just about average with images scoring on detail only when clicked outdoors with a good amount of light. You’ll find other phones with a better camera in this range.
The processor being used on the Vibe P1M exists to offer a plain Jane functional smartphone. Asking the phone to serve you with gaming at a rigorous pace is not advisable.
Why Buy It?
Lenovo projects the Vibe P1M as the ideal battery horse and much to our delight, the phone stands tall. The size of the phone bears the brunt of the big battery unit but it’s nothing that will cause handling issues.
We’re happy to see that Lenovo has worked on the software side of things with the Vibe UI, but surely the bloatware can be minimized or, even better, eliminated. For Rs 7,999, the Lenovo Vibe P1M is the phone with a really long battery life. Any power user would love that. But for the rest, you have other buying options albeit with a smaller battery.
