LED TVs today are at the crossroads of becoming what the CRTs were back in the early 90s. These days one can easily buy an affordable LED TV of respectable size without spending a lot.
Brands like Micromax and Intex have gatecrashed Samsung, LG and Sony’s party with big-size LED television under Rs 40K. InFocus is the latest entrant in this space with its 50-inch LED TV priced at Rs 32,990.

What’s Good?
The InFocus 50-inch LED television has been made by Foxconn, so it looks very similar to other entry-level LED TVs selling in the market right now. For this price, you get a big-size television that caters to your needs in a budget.
The colour contrast available to users will not match the likes of a Samsung or a Sony, but it’s still decent enough to get you going. The bezel size of the front panel manages to offer a comfortable viewing experience from all angles. You’re better off keeping the colour ratio of the display to a minimum, which will ensure that your eyes aren’t painfully strained.
In terms of connectivity, the TV gets two HDMI ports, a single USB port (facing sideways), AV in/out, a component in, one RF antenna, and a VGA port to connect a PC or a laptop. We really can’t ask for much in terms of the construction of the television at this price point. You also get an IR remote control. The response of the remote varies with your position, and most of the time we felt it was better to stay in close proximity to the TV.
What’s Bad?
The LED TVs software interface is very basic and doesn’t offer you the excitement of a Samsung or an LG TV. It would be mad to ask for Smart TV features at this price but that would have been an excellent value-for-money proposition.
The TV also has a physical button right on the edge of the display but we don’t like its quality. Safe to say that you’re better off using the remote as the primary control device.
Although you get bright colour contrast, we’d like to state that the TV panels lack the clarity and quality of an LED TV. This became obvious when we saw the latest season of House of Cards; the content crispness is something that could be improved on in future models.
In addition to that, the built-in audio speaker quality lacks the punch needed to watch movies. You can set up external audio speakers with the TV, which will give you a better all-round experience.
Why Buy It?
InFocus has made a decent beginning with its range of affordable LED TVs in the market. Priced at Rs 34,999, their 50-inch Full-HD LED television offers people the chance to fulfill their dream of owning an LED TV without burning a hole in their pockets.
It doesn’t have the best audio quality and even the panels are not up to the mark, so chances are you might find it a hard bargain when compared to a Samsung or an LG. However, as we have seen with phones, affordable TVs are worth the punt these days.
