Dell makes all kinds of laptops: entry-level, mid-ranger, high-end and gaming variants with Alienware. But probably for the first time, Dell’s Inspiron series has been given the tools to rival most high-end notebooks in the market, without costing super bomb.

Their Inspiron 15 7000 range starts from around 80k and gives users the option to go for the juggernaut.

In India, there aren’t many who’ll look beyond the Apple MacBook once the price goes beyond a lakh. But Dell, thinks otherwise and with the Inspiron 15 7000 they want to prove exactly that.

Will they be able to do so? That is what we’re going to find out.

What’s Good?

Most of us would be against spending upwards of Rs 60,000 to own a powerful Windows laptop.

‘Why won’t I buy the MacBook instead?’ is what most of us will say. But with the Inspiron 15 7000, you get a lot of power, without going totally bankrupt.

What you get with a Dell Alienware is available for much less with the Inspiron 15 7000 series. This laptop has got a textured matte finishing, which serves the purpose of a rugged notebook for your daily use.

Dell claims that the Inspiron 15 7000 range is more than capable of holding its fort with respect to multimedia editing and heavy-graphics loaded gaming.

Add to that you get a 15.6-inch display with the option that goes up to ultra high-definition (UHD) or 4K resolution, as we know it. The display colours are right on par with what a high-end laptop should offer, and the overall performance is just worth revering.

The series starts with 8GB RAM with 6th generation Core i5 and 1TB of storage. All this makes the Inspiron 15 7000 a power-packed notebook, capable of doing just about everything you throw at it.

The built-in keyboard has been spaced out with respect to the size of the laptop and this helps the user to conveniently work on it. You also get slew of connectivity ports, that is essential for the modern day users.

What’s Bad?

One of the major drawbacks of having a big-sized laptop is the effort needed to carry it along. What also doesn’t work in favour of Inspiron 15 7000 is its widescreen nature, making it bigger than a conventional laptop of the given size.

This one’s on the heavier side, which makes it hard for us to see the laptop being used for day-to-day work, unless you have a cozy work-from-home job. It also isn’t the pleasing to eye kind of laptop, and in 2016 it is hard to see Dell’s reason for giving Inspiron 15 7000 a plain-Jane design touch.

The powerful aspect of the Inspiron 15 7000 also doesn’t help the laptop’s battery life. On an average, we managed to get over 5 hours out of this laptop, which is nowhere close to the quality that one expects from a high-end notebook.

Dell’s peculiar strategy to place the Inspiron 15 7000 as a gaming notebook ensures that it is seen in the same mould as their Alienware range of gaming laptops.

Why Buy It?

The Dell Inspiron 15 7000 has all the ingredients that everyone would love to have in their laptop, even though it comes at a high price.

I feel that anyone spending close to a lakh might opt for their XPS 13 instead, which is a better laptop with its ultra-portability factor.

Would we recommend you to go for the Inspiron 15 7000 for its gaming prowess? Only if an Alienware is out of your bounds. But make sure that you’re just getting it for the power, ‘cuz portability and power efficiency is not this laptop’s best suite.
