Reliance Jio wants more JioPhone users to consume more data and spend more for it, which is why it has launched a couple of new plans for them. Till now, they only had entry-level plans with validity up to 28 days (one month), offering up to 42GB of data priced at Rs 153.

But with the operator looking to push up its average revenue per user (ARPU) in the market, pricier data packs means getting people to shell out more money. For this, Jio is now letting JioPhone users get 500MB of 4G data daily for up to 6 months with plans that cost as much as Rs 594.

JioPhone and JioPhone 2 users will be able to avail these offers and the plans have been updated on the company’s website.

And if that’s out of reach for particular users (in terms of their budget), then you get similar data benefits with lesser validity for Rs 297.

Here’s a quick look at all the benefits from both these plans.

Snapshot

JP MRP 594 :

Free Voice
Unlimited data (500MB/day, thereafter unlimited at 64Kbps), and complimentary subscription to Jio apps
300 SMS / 28 days
Validity: 168 Days (28*6 cycles)

JP MRP 297:

Free voice calls
Unlimited data (500MB/per day, thereafter unlimited at 64kbps), and complimentary subscription to Jio apps
300 SMS/28 days
Validity: 84 days (28*3 cycles)

Asking people to spend over Rs 350 on data packs, when they were doing that for a maximum of Rs 150 is a bold move. We all know that JioPhone as a category has hit it off with users in the non-urban regions, with people relying on support for WhatsApp, YouTube and even Google Assistant on devices that are priced between Rs 1,500 and Rs 2,999.

It helps Jio’s case that none of its rivals are eyeing this segment, after they confirmed that launching an entry level phone with subsidised prices won’t help their business. Fair enough, they have a clear strategy in mind.

As for the JioPhone users, if they do end up splurging more on data for the JioPhone, it’s a win-win for both consumers and the company as well.
