Reliance Jio has over 186 million users on its network in India now and it is extending the convenience of international roaming at a nominal cost for postpaid users. The Mukesh Ambani-owned telecom operator has announced a slew of postpaid plans which come with international roaming pre-activated.
The plans for international travellers will be available from 15 May according to a note from the company. Reliance Jio says with these plans users will never be hit with bill shocks, and all the services like voice (both domestic and global), SMS and even the Internet will be pre-activated for Jio postpaid users.
In terms of the details of the postpaid plan which will available soon, Jio claims that making calls to countries like US will be priced starting from 50 paise per minute. You can start using international services without paying any security deposit as well.

International calling and roaming tariffs are available to prepaid users on Jio as well.
When it comes to international calling for all Jio users, they get to make voice calls to US at 50p per minute, Rs 2 for China, France and UK among others. If you’re making calls to countries like Saudi Arabia or Israel, it’ll cost you Rs 6 per minute, the company adds.
For international roaming purposes, Jio has listed out three plans which starts from Rs 575 and going as high as Rs 5751, if he/she is a frequent traveller (mostly business users). These plans come with validity of one day, a week and a month respectively. One can get 250 MB of data each day with these plans, to a maximum of 5 GB per month.
Even if you don’t add these packs, you can make calls or use data abroad at Rs 2 per minute or per MB or Rs 10 per minute or per MB depending on the country you are in. This works with the basic Rs 199 postpaid pack, and you are charged as per your usage.
The decision to roll out new postpaid plans clearly shows that Jio isn’t pleased with its latest average revenue per user (ARPU) which has come down, owing to sharp fall in 4G data prices in the country.
Plans like these could be Jio’s way of tempting more users from incumbents like Airtel, Vodafone to jump ship via mobile number portability which lets them retain their numbers.
