Reliance Jio announced its broadband service at the company event last year, but we’re yet to see its official roll out across the country.

And while reports have indicated that the telecom operator could finally make its dive into the fixed line internet segment, this week, the company seems to be preparing for it in a different way.

People on social media have shared posts, where in Jio is asking its users what they should name the broadband service. This development is certainly a strange one, because, the company, during its launch event in 2018, called the service Jio GigaFiber.

But it seems they’re having second thoughts about it, which is why the last minute change to its branding is possible.

It does help that Jio broadband service isn’t commercially available in the country which means the existing branding, for the yet to launch broadband service can be tweaked as required.

And looking to crowd source the name of the brand seems to be the latest move to get public talking about its service.

As you can see above, the question clearly suggests name options; JioFiber, JioHome and JioGigaFiber, which is what it’s called right now.

It remains to be seen if the results of this poll from over 300 million Jio users will be relied on, to make the final decision on the branding of the service.

Reliance Jio has big plans for its broadband division, and wants to repeat its mobile sector feat with JioGigaFiber as well. For this, multiple reports have suggested that Jio will be launching two offers, for which consumers will have to get routers worth Rs 2,500 and Rs 4,500 that will cater to 50Mbps and 1Gbps data plans respectively.
