The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has updated the mAadhaar app on both iOS and Android app stores. UIDAI has also recommended that users update to the recent version of the app to gain access to all its features as the older version of the app will stop working.

The app has been launched to help users carry their Aadhaar number and other details like demographics, name, address, date of birth and photograph in a single app.

The app is 43.6MB in size and can be downloaded from both the App Store and Android PlayStore.

Here’s How You Sign Up

You need to log in to the new mAadhaar app by entering your mobile number and Aadhaar card number. You can do so by clicking on the “Register my Aadhaar” option.

After which you will receive an OTP which you need to feed into the app. This process officially registers your Aadhaar number into the app which means you now have a valid copy of the document in your smartphone.

Key Features in the App

The mAadhaar app offers a bevy of services for users like ordering an Aadhaar print, updating address and other details on Aadhaar and you can also enroll for a paperless KYC process through the app.

Users can order a new Aadhaar card at home using the Order Aadhaar Reprint option. After filling the details on both sides of the virtual Aadhaar card users will have to order the same to their home address where they will be charged Rs 50 for the delivery. It takes 5-6 days for UIDAI to print and hand the cards over to the Speed Post.

Also, there have been times where many Aadhhar card users have been asked to share their Aadhaar number at various places to avail of certain services. Many fear that the number would end up in the wrong hands.

For better security, the mAadhaar app allows users to create a virtual ID of the Aadhaar and you can also share the details via a QR code. You also have the option to temporarily block or unblock your biometrics using the app.

The mAadhaar app does provide ease of use to its users but struggles with some issues like connecting with the central database. The interface looks better than before and is much easier to navigate.

The app is a step in the right direction, but nobody knows how UIDAI is making sure that the app is secured, and whether it will survive any efforts of mobile hacking.
