The iPad received a lot of goodies at this year’s Apple developers conference, all because of a new operating system. The new iPadOS brings to the table a tighter grid of icons, a more compact interface and now widgets can be pinned on the home screen.

iPadOS builds on the same foundation as iOS, adding powerful new capabilities and intuitive features specific to the large display and versatility of iPad.

New Home Screen

The Home screen has been refreshed with a new layout to display more apps on each page.

Users can get quick access to widgets for at-a-glance information using the Today View feature on the Home Screen. You can also get quick access to other apps including headlines, weather, calendar, events, tips and more.

Just Swipe & Slide

There have been a lot of gestures that have been introduced in the new iPadOS. Now users will be able to switch between multiple apps using a slide gesture.

They will also be able to use multiple apps using the Split View (multi window option). For example, customers can compose an email while viewing another email side by side or access multiple apps like Messages or Calendar with just a swipe.

This make the Os more intuitive and user friendly.

From Pencils to Pen Drives

The Apple Pencil brings a lot more dynamics to iPadOS where the Pencil is more integrated to enhance the iPad experience.

Users will have the option to mark up and send entire webpages, documents or emails on iPad by swiping Apple Pencil from the corner of the screen.

Apple also announced that it reduced the Pencil’s latency to as low as 9 milliseconds using advanced prediction algorithms and optimisations.

Desktop View

The new iPadOS will also feature desktop view display and will also get a download manager. Features that have existed on the Windows OS for ages now.

Another unique addition is the inclusion of more gestures. Now, to copy-paste texts, users will have to use three-finger gestures which they can swipe, expand and squeeze for different command. No more need to magnify and make irritating cursors.

The developer preview of the iPadOS will be made available to developers from today itself with the final version scheduled to be released in July.
