Instagram, in February, announced that it will roll out a feature that will inform users whenever someone screenshots their story. However, according to BuzzFeed, the screenshot notification feature has been disabled permanently.

Instagram had said that it was testing the feature, where users would receive a warning when they tried to screenshot someone’s story, saying that the person will be alerted, Gizmodo reported, citing a tweet.

This alert was Instagram’s way of making its feature ‘different’ from the one on Snapchat, where the user gets alerted straight away.

Unfortunately, as creepy as it sounds, this might come as good news for those who like to steal pictures from their friends and family anonymously.

Instagram chucking this feature, however, also appears to compromise user privacy. Facebook’s platforms have been slowly adapting Snapchat’s features, as they seem to appeal to a younger audience.

Yet, Facebook has seen itself in the middle of a maelstrom around user data privacy, and it isn’t in the social media site’s best interests to remove features that could compromise a user’s privacy.
