The Indian Air Force launched its new video game for smartphones, ‘A Cut Above’ in New Delhi on Wednesday, 31 July. It was launched by Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa. Developed by Threye Interactive, this is the second smartphone game launched by the IAF, after ‘Guardian of the Skies,’ which came out in 2014.

Apart from the game, a special pavilion, which also has a flight simulator, was also inaugurated by Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal.

The game features the whole IAF lineup, which includes the Mi-17 chopper, Sukhoi Su-30 MKI, the IL-78 refuelling plane and even the Dassault Rafale, among other IAF jets.

While inaugurating the game, Air Chief Marshal Dhanoa said such applications would create awareness among children and encourage them to think of the Air Force as a career option.

“The mobile game also has a segment on career navigation, where students can learn about the career options available in the IAF.”

‘A Cut Above’ features intense air-to-air combats with quality graphics to keep the user engaged. It was launched for both iOS and Android and is now available to download on both the app stores.

The developers have said that a multiplayer mode will also be introduced in October.

“The official mobile gaming application of the IAF will allow an aspirant to experience first hand the roles of an IAF air warrior, as well as means to apply and appear for recruitment from the comfort of his/her mobile phone.”
