We have all heard the cliché about there being no borders when you see the Earth from outer space. However noble the sentiment behind the thought may be, it is not, as it turns out, strictly accurate. NASA shared some stunning images of the Indo-Pak border as seen from space at night, on their Facebook page.
The image was taken by an astronaut aboard the International Space Station while looking north across Pakistan’s Indus River valley.
There truly is nothing like outer space to give a perspective on issues too close to home. The lesson here? This thin, beautiful line that divides two nations and carries a history of displacement, loss and violence is nothing but a line, after all. It need not dictate where we are going.
