The perpetual growth of internet and easy accessibility has rendered the need to download videos off the internet moot. Users are mostly streaming the content rather than using traditional methods like Torrent (which is banned in India) to access videos online.
Two of the most prominent and commonly used platforms for consuming content are YouTube and Facebook. But, how does one download the content from these websites, in case you wanted to store it offline?
The ‘SS’ Trick
Perhaps the easiest way to download videos from YouTube is the ‘ss’ trick. All you need to do is just add ‘ss’ after ‘www.’ in the youtube url and you’ll be directed to a web page called savefrom.net where you can choose the video format (.mp4, .flv, etc). Post that just click download and your video will be downloaded.
Similarly, to download a video from Facebook:
- Go to the video and right click on it.
- Select the “show video URL” option and copy the URL.
- Go to the website savefrom.net and paste the link in the video URL section and select ‘Download.’
There are many other websites like ClipConverter, VideoGrabber.net and KeepVid you can use to download YouTube videos.
The advantage that ClipConverter gives is that you can download a video from a specific time you want and don’t have to download the whole video.
Just a word of caution though. These videos are copyrighted, so downloading them isn't really legal if you plan to upload or use them elsewhere.
