Google’s Home smart speakers ran into software issues which meant the device stopped working for quite a few people this week. The matter has been assessed by Google’s Home device team and they will be rolling out an update to fix the problem.
However, the search giant has reportedly said that it will be replacing the affected Google Home speakers as well.
The issue was first highlighted when an automatic software update to Google Home and Home mini speakers crashed the device, which meant, all the LED lights were turned on and it didn’t respond to any voice commands.
Reports suggest that only Google Home and Home Mini speakers have been affected by this roll out, and users with either of these devices can get it replaced.
The search giant, in an official statement quoted in this report, have confirmed these developments and talked about fixing the issue as well.
“We are aware that a small number of Google Home and Google Home Mini devices are affected by an issue that causes the device to stop working.”Google spokesperson
The company has assured the users that affected speakers will be replaced.
“We have a fix that will prevent the issue from happening and will be rolling it out soon. We are replacing affected devices.”Google spokesperson
However, we’re not sure how this replacement will be done. Google is mostly selling these devices through online or third party platforms in the country. We’ll give you an update on this after hearing back from the company.
But this isn’t the first time when Google’s smart speakers have made headlines this year. The company’s voice assistant-centric speaker was alleged to have been snooping into conversations of the users. Google later assured that it won’t be doing it from here on, without taking your consent.
