Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now the time comes when we shall redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom.

These words will forever be etched in the memory of modern-day India. These are the words from the speech of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, now known as the Tryst With Destiny.

On the occasion of 70th Independence Day of India, Google dedicated its doodle to the first words spoken by Nehru, ushering the country into freedom from the British rule.
