Apple will host its annual developer conference in the United States from 4 to 8 June. Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook will start the proceedings at the event, where for over 90 minutes or so Apple will showcase what it has been working on over the past year.
WWDC events are centred around iOS and MacOS developers. A new version of the iOS for iPhone and iPad users is revealed at WWDC.
Other than this, we’ve become accustomed to hearing about WatchOS and what the latest version of Apple Watch is likely to offer. As rituals go, here’s a look at what we expect to see at the WWDC 2018 keynote this year.
New Look, Improved, Bug-free iOS
Let’s be honest, Apple users, iOS versions since 10 have been anything but stable and efficient from day one.
iPhone users have complained about several issues with their devices, especially once they get updated with a new version of iOS every year. What also doesn’t help is that unlike Android, iOS updates make their way to millions of iPhones on the same day.
With iOS 12, wholesale changes in the software are unlikely but reports suggest that Apple might look to fix the issues that have popped up often with its previous version. Better battery management is also going to feature high on the list, along with an improved notification centre and better use of 3D Touch among other things.
iPhone SE 2
There’s been a lot of chatter about the possibility of Apple unveiling the iPhone SE 2 at the event this year. The phone, as per multiple rumours is likely to sport an iPhone X-like notch-laden screen but with a smaller footprint.
iPhone SE 2 will retain its 4-inch screen but will look different from the first generation, with an all-glass back body mooted, which means wireless charging could make its debut on this one as well.
Other features include a quad-core A10 chip with 2GB RAM, which could help the iPhone SE 2 perform better than its predecessor. Apple could opt for a 12-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front snapper for FaceTime. Apple could consolidate its variants of the iPhone SE 2 by going for 32GB and 128GB options.
A More Powerful Siri?
Apple’s voice assistant is lagging behind Amazon and Google’s. Siri was the first to enter the market but its growth has completely stalled, for some weird reason.
Many expect Apple to introduce Siri with new set of services in tow, making it friendlier for smart homes as well. We’re hoping that Apple will showcase promising stuff.
MacBook or iPad?
Over the past year, iPads have merely got incremental upgrades. This year many expect it to be different. The new iPad (sized at 9.7-inch) could get a bezel-less screen, with support for Face ID mooted as well.
There have been reports of a MacBook making its appearance on 4 June but our bets are clearly placed on iPad getting the nod.
