Opera was offering the feature in a beta version of the app till now.

VPN or virtual private network services were originally meant for safe web browsing, which allows users to prevent their web history from getting tracked. And, more often than not, VPN’s also give access to sites not available or blocked in a particular country.

Most of these plugins cost money, but this web browser for mobile now supports VPN free of cost, without taking away a user’s privacy. The service is available on the Opera browser for Android and can be downloaded from Google Play store for unlimited access to websites from across the globe.

VPN services have helped users access platforms that haven’t been launched or made available in a market. For instance, Spotify in India, before it even launched, was used by many people through the US account via VPN.

But Opera’s pitch for the VPN is more towards safety of a user, when he or she is using the internet via public Wi-Fi network. The in-built VPN service is a no-log service, which means that the VPN servers do not log and retain any activity data of the user.

The browser’s built-in VPN sets up a private and an encrypted network between the user’s smartphone and a remote VPN server, using 256-bit encryption algorithms, the company said.
