Amazon has launched its audiobook service Audible in India for Android, iOS and Amazon Cloud Player (for PC) with an array of almost 200,000 audiobooks across different genres and languages.
Audible offers audio versions of books in a spoken audio format. The launch of the platform in India will give users access to content from both Indian and international authors in various genres such as fiction, sci-fi, fantasy, drama, mysteries, biographies, and more.
The company is offering the service on a free 30-day trial basis while people who have already subscribed to Amazon Prime will get a 90-day free trial period post which they would have to pay Rs 199 per month to continue using the service.
Audible users will be given the option to subscribe to monthly (Rs 299), 6 months (Rs 1,345) and yearly (Rs 2,332) subscription packs.
Payment options for the service are currently limited as Amazon is only accepting credit cards and ICICI Bank debit cards in India. Currently, there are no wallet payment options available. This is because the service is available in its beta version.
The company is offering Indian users one free credit per month, which they can avail to purchase any audiobook. The platform also allows users to swap audiobooks that they do not want or like for free. Once an user has purchased an audiobook, it will remain in their online library even if they cancel the subscription later.
How it Works?
In order to use Audible, you have to download the application from Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. Once downloaded, you have to log in with your Amazon ID.
After that, to start the membership you have to choose a plan. Once your free-trial period ends, the subscription amount will automatically get deducted from the credit/debit card you are using with your Amazon account.
The interface is pretty clean and you have an assortment of genres you can choose from like biographies, drama, classics, comedy, sci-fi and many more.
There are options to download the audiobooks, and then play them offline later. You can also make adjustments to the narration speeds as per your liking. It also comes with a Car Mode feature where you can play the audiobook via you car’s audio and listen to the same while driving! Pretty neat.
