Given the huge supply gap the exclusive iPhone X is facing, one of the only ways to make sure you get your hands on it without getting into a queue/mob these days is to steal it.

That is exactly what happened in San Francisco, where thieves stole about 300 iPhone X devices worth over $3,70,000!

According to a CNET report of Thursday, the three thieves stole Apple's new smartphones by breaking into a UPS truck parked outside a San Francisco Apple Store.

The truck was delivering 313 of Apple iPhone X devices that costs $999 a piece for the lowest variant (64GB variant), the report said.

CNET further reported that the UPS driver locked the cargo section of the truck after parking outside Stonestown Galleria mall in the southwest Lakeside neighbourhood of San Francisco, according to the police report. A janitor had spotted the suspects taking boxes from the truck, into their Dodge van. He also clicked a picture.

Stealing iPhones has become a business since iPhones have gained popularity. Now, although Apple's "Find My iPhone" and remote lockout technology has caused a drop in stolen devices, the aim is to steal an iPhone before such services have been set up on the device.

It’s still unclear if the stolen phones will work, or if Apple will be able to disable them. The company did not give any more information regarding the security capabilities of the devices.

What makes this theft serious is that it comes just few hours before the launch of the flagship Apple device that Apple have hailed as the "future of the smartphone."

The device may end up becoming the highest selling Apple device ever.

Meanwhile, US-based package delivery company UPS said it was working with the law enforcement investigating the theft.

In India, iPhone X will be available in stores from Friday at a starting price of Rs 89,000 (64GB).
