A joint study by Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India and PwC shows that the numbers of smartphone ussers in India is expected to rise by 84 percent to 859 million by 2022 from 469 million in 2017, reported Economic Times.

According to the study, feature phone users will shrink to 504 million in 2022 from 701 million in 2017.

“As more and more people opt for smartphones,” the ownership for non-smartphones will see a decline, ASSOCHAM-PwC report titled ‘Video on Demand: Entertainment reimagined’ said.

This could be a massive opportunity for Video on Demand platforms such as Hotstar and Netflix, reported the Financial Express.

While 5.3 percent of the population owned tablets in 2017, an uptick in tablets users is expected with about 10 percent owning them three years from now.

The study also pointed out that the low usage of tablets is a missed opportunity for manufacturers, who offer larger screens that aid HD viewing than smartphones.
