Volkswagen India has launched the 8th generation Passat in two variants – Comfortline and Highline – priced at Rs 29.99 lakh and Rs 32.99 lakh, ex-showroom, respectively. The new 2017 Volkswagen Passat is based on the Volkswagen group’s MQB platform, which also underpins the Volkswagen Tiguan, Skoda Superb and Skoda Octavia among other cars in the group.
The Volkswagen Passat comes with a single diesel engine choice right now – the tried and tested 2-litre TDI engine. It is mated to a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, driving the front wheels. It puts out 177 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque, similar to its cousin, the Skoda Superb.
So what sets the Volkswagen Passat apart? It’s the long feature list that it has, as well as the black leather and wood-finished interiors that give it a classy feel. It has nine airbags, ABS, traction control, hill-start assist, reverse camera, as well as side and front cameras for a 360 degree view among its safety features.
It also features automatic park assist, where the car can steer and park itself, either in parallel park mode or perpendicular parking. It features 3-zone climate control, full LED headlamps with daytime running lamps, LED tail-lamps and electric boot too. It comes with cooled seats, auto-dimming mirrors, sun-blinds and wood finish on the dashboard, which gives it a premium feel.
The 8th generation Passat is about 70 kg lighter than the previous generation car. It has a claimed fuel-efficiency of 17.42 kmpl (ARAI rated). It comes in six colours – white, black, brown, silver, blue and grey. Volkswagen is also offering a four-year warranty and financing options from its in-house arm starting at Rs 30,000 per month.
