Google is celebrating composer Johann Sebastian Bach with its first artificial intelligence-powered Doodle.

The Google Doodle shows the composer playing an organ in celebration of his birthday – under the old Julian calendar – on 21 March. It encourages users to compose their own two-measure melody.

Google has also shared a video detailing how they came up with the one-of-its-kind artificial intelligence powered doodle.

To develop this AI Doodle,Google teams created a machine-learning model that was trained on 306 of Bach's chorale harmonisations. Meanwhile, another team worked to allow machine-learning to occur within the web browser instead of on its servers.

How Does it Work?

The interactive doodle will prompt you to compose a two-measure melody or pick one of the pre-existing choices. When you press the "Harmonize" button, it will use machine learning to give you a version of your melody that sounds like it was composed by Bach himself.

AI uses machine learning to analyse the input and then the algorithms turn it into a harmony closely resembling Bach.

The interactive also provides the option to share and download the created harmony. The Bach Doodle will be up for 48 hours from – 21March to 22 March – in 77 countries.
