Vivo has launched its V11 Pro smartphone in India and for Rs 25,990 this device goes up against the Nokia 7 Plus and the Poco F1 from Xiaomi. This is its latest phone after the Vivo Nex to come with an in-display fingerprint scanner. But novelty features aside, buyers are looking for a phone that can last them through some rigorous use cases.

With Xiaomi’s Poco F1 changing the market dynamics of the sub Rs 25,000 segment, Vivo will have to play a different game with the V11 Pro to stand a chance. So, what does the phone offer in terms of looks and performance? Here’s our first impression of the device.

It’s hard to deny that for its price, the Vivo V11 Pro looks appealing, even though the company has used a glossy plastic finish on the back. It gets a 6.4-inch full HD+ screen with 2340x1080 pixels that’s bright whenever needed and lets you easily read content, even while outdoors. Granted, the screen panel is a bit reflective and maybe Vivo could look to improve its quality.

Even for its size, the phone is light in weight at 156 grams. It has a thickness of 7.9-mm, which is quite impressive for a phone packing a 3400mAh battery unit. There’s a new subject worth talking about and that’s the notch in a new avatar.

This so-called "waterdrop" notch basically lets phone makers reduce the size of the notch on the front, something which is likely to be seen with other devices later this year.

While we’re not big fans of the notch, what Apple started as a trend with the iPhone X last year has quickly found its feet in the Android universe as well. Because of this, the screen-to-body ratio sees a marginal increase.

The phone packs an octa-core Snapdragon 660 processor with 6GB RAM and offers 64GB of storage. This results in stable performance of the device, even while multi-tasking. It houses a 3.5-mm audio jack, dual-SIM slots, and you can even expand storage further.

At the rear of the phone, you have 12-megapixel and 5-megapixel dual cameras that basically compliment the 25-megapixel front camera. Once again, Vivo shows its keenness for the selfie camera. The phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo overlaid with its Funtouch OS, which looks quite similar to Apple’s iOS.

It is still preloaded with way too many apps. Why can’t phone makers let consumers decide what they would like to use? That and the heaviness of the software is still evident. Maybe Vivo should try out stock Android for a change.

In addition to the fingerprint scanner, you can add Face ID for unlocking the device. Just like we’ve seen with devices from OnePlus and Oppo, the feature is lightening quick, but it’s not advisable to use it for payment services.

It is also worth mentioning that Vivo, even in 2018 continues to use a microUSB 2.0 port at a time when Type C is slowly gaining acceptance. It’s time to offer the Type C, Vivo.
